Ordering and prices
Why is there no cart? How do I order?
Because we sew most pieces to your size, fabric and finish. Pick a model, set it up and hit “Request a quote”. We reply with a price and a lead time; once you confirm, we start cutting.
Why aren’t prices on the site?
Size, fabric and quantity change the price directly, so we’d rather send you a real quote than a ballpark. Quotes are free and non-binding.
How long does it take?
It depends on the piece and quantity. As a guide: pillows and seat cushions 2–3 weeks, throws and curtains 3–4 weeks, slipcovers and reupholstery 4–6 weeks, rugs 6–8 weeks. Your quote states a firm date.
Can I get a size that isn’t listed?
Yes. Every model has a “Custom size” option — just enter inches. For curtains and slipcovers we’ll walk you through measuring during the quote.
Fabric and indigo
Can I see the fabric first?
Yes — order a sample kit of up to 6 fabrics. It costs $15 with free US shipping, and the $15 is credited toward your first order. Indigo never looks the same on a screen as in your hand, so hold it up to your own light.
Does indigo rub off?
At first, especially with dark denim, some color can transfer onto light surfaces. Wash separately in cold water for the first few washes and keep it off pale upholstery for the first weeks. It settles over time. Details on the care page.
Will the color fade?
Yes — that’s what indigo does. Areas that rub and see the sun get lighter over time. To keep it even, keep it out of direct sun and wash covers inside out.
Do you use natural indigo?
Our denims and indigo linens are dyed with synthetic indigo — chemically the same molecule as plant indigo, and it ages the same way. Fiber content and weight for every fabric are on the fabrics page.
Upholstery
Can you reupholster my own chair or sofa?
Yes. Upload photos and measurements with the quote form. We choose the fabric together; pick-up and return are free within Greater Boston (about 25 miles from the studio), further afield we quote them.
Can I bring my own fabric (COM)?
Yes, for upholstery, slipcovers and cushions (COM). Send us a sample first so we can check it’s suitable; we charge the same labor as with our fabrics, but can’t guarantee how a fabric we didn’t choose will wear.
The brand
How are you related to UPVOTERED?
UPVOTEBLUE is the textile brand of the UPVOTERED family. UPVOTERED makes the tables, shelves and lamps; we make the fabric that goes on, under and next to them. You can order both together as a set.
Trade
Do your fabrics meet flammability codes for hotels and restaurants?
Our standard fabrics aren’t certified for contract use. For projects that need a standard (for example NFPA 701 for drapery or CAL TB 117-2013 for upholstered seating), tell us in the quote form — we source a compliant fabric for the job and pass on the mill’s test documentation.
Delivery and returns
Do you ship across the US — or abroad?
Yes. Within the US we ship by UPS Ground (quoted with your order; sample kits ship free). We also ship to Canada, the UK and the EU — duties and taxes are paid by the recipient. In Greater Boston we can deliver ourselves.
Can I return made-to-order pieces?
Pieces made to your size or fabric can’t be returned unless they’re faulty or not made as agreed — tell us within 14 days of delivery and we’ll repair, remake or refund. Unused pieces in standard sizes and fabrics can be returned within 30 days.
